“I thought all our fire doors were compliant?”

• Fire doors are only compliant with up-to-date maintenance and appropriate certification.

• Check gaps between the door blade and frame – there should be less than 4mm at the top and sides, and less than 8mm at the bottom of the door (3mm or smoke resistant). Check the certification – all fire doors will have a pin or label on the top (or hinge side) to indicate they are a fully certified fire door.

• Compliant fire doors are designed to automatically close behind you in the event of fire, holding flames back and stopping the spread of the fire and smoke into escape routes, corridors, and other flats in the block.
